There is quite a bit of buzz surrounding domains for geographic locations as of late. They are pretty awesome. You can truly own a unique piece of virtual real estate by choosing the right domain. The days of owning domains like Argentina.com, Canada.com, etc are gone but there are still a lot of city/state, state/country, city/country, neighborhoods, and other locations on the Earth that are available in the form of a domain name. Lets head on over the new Name.com Geo Domains search tool shall we? I have a certain affection for Brazil, the city of Maceió in the state of Alagoas to be more precise, so we will start our search there.
Before we do, please allow me to get on my soap box. If you happen to own, find, or acquire an awesome geo domain, domains like brazil.com and brasil.com are prime examples, please put something useful and more interesting on it than PPC advertisements. Pretty please? I know it’s the easy way out, but come on people. A little ingenuity maybe? You own a prime geo domain and even if it’s not a brazil.com, it’s a unique location on the planet and I guarantee there is an enormous amount of information that you can share regarding any single geographic location. Please do. Not only does it make your site worth going to, it will make you more MONEY because you’re SEO will be so much better than a bunch of useless links. OK, we can continue now.
In my example we type in Maceió Alagoas into our search bar and click on the ol’ search button. I’m in the US so the Google keyword suggestion tool that is integrated into the page defaults the keyword target country to the US. In this case, I want to target Brazilians since most searches for this term are probably coming from Brazilians looking to take a vacation and experience the beautiful beaches of Maceió. In our case, we correctly detected the language as Portuguese. If it was wrong, we can change that as well.

geo domains
The first thing you will notice is a Google map and a bubble indicating where the feature you were searching for is located. You could just as easily enter other geographic features like Mount Saint Helens or The Grand Canyon. We zoom the map in for you when we find the location and also show 150 surrounding locations. The locations are also listed below the map in link form so that you can click on them and go directly to that feature on the map. We first show locations by population and if there are not 150 populated areas we fill up the other slots with random none populated geographic features in the area. As you zoom in, the granularity of what shows up is increased. For instance, there or locations in Colorado outside of Denver where you can find various windmills and other mundane landmarks. The same is true for most areas around the world. If you drag the map around we show you features for the new area in which you are looking.
Each time you search for or click on a location or feature we generate a new list of surrounding locations as well as a list of domains that were generated using Google keyword suggestions. Next to the domain is the average number of global monthly searches over the last 12 months. You will notice a lot of IDN domains in the list as well as ASCII. There are still a lot of good IDN Geo Domains available if you are IDN friendly. Using our example, maceióalagoas.com is available and you could register it RIGHT NOW!!
So, that is it in a nutshell. We will be improving the tool as time goes on and we hope you take some time to check it out. Enjoy.
