.TEL at Macworld!

02.13.10 | Comments | Posted by Lesley

.TEL booth at Macworld

Heard of .TEL? It’s pretty darn cool. It’s a low cost TLD that acts as a digital business card — a single point of contact that allows people to access all of your contact information on an easy to manage website. The best part is no hosting costs are required, everything is included in the cost of the domain, which Name.com happens to sell for just $9.99 $8.99!

Our friends from .TEL, Justin and Henri, were at Macworld to show off their two impressive (and open source!) iPhone apps that allow you to manage your .TEL domains and all of your .TEL contacts easily and quickly directly from your phone. My.TEL (app store link) is the domain management tool and Superbook (app store link) is the contact management tool. It’s pretty awesome to see how fast Superbook loads this information (even using the less than stellar 3G network in San Francisco), which is due to their clever use of DNS to transmit the data.

Check out this video to see just how fast the apps are and how easy it is to manage your sites.

.TEL demo at Macworld from Name.com on Vimeo.

Here at Name.com we’re big fans of .TEL and we take pride in the fact that we are the leading .TEL registrar. In addition to having the best prices, we offer extra management tools for your .TEL domain that you can’t find at any other registrar. Since .TEL can act also as a directory, Name.com allows you to add new accounts to your domain without giving them access to your main account, and that’s just one of the cool things you can do.

To take advantage of the $8.99 price, use the code MACWORLD when you checkout. We’ll be running that promo until the end of the month, so check it out and be sure to TEL us what you think. ;)

How long does it take for my domains to be listed under my account on name.com?
I transfered some domains almost 2 weeks back, still my status is " 4" (4) Transfer has been authorized by Administrator.

How long before it's actually submitted to central registry for approval?

I sent you 2 mails so far, and none of them have been answered, do you ever reply support queries?
  • namedotcom
    Hi Satish,

What is the case number you got when you emailed us? We'll have someone take a look right away.

    Name.com Case # 00133168
    Details for Transfer ID: 25516

    Satish,

Very sorry for the delay. Basically what happened is the transfers were rejected by Godaddy and there appears to be a bug in our system, so you did not get automatically get notified nor refunded for this. We are handling this refund process manually right now and our dev team is looking into the bug. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I would have filed a case against you I was in the US.
This is very unprofessional and you will pay for it.
I will post about this on blog.
  • Satish Gandham
I thought you refunded the money via paypal.
Transfer my money to paypal, I'm no longer going to register at name.com
  • namedotcom
    Satish,

Again we sincerely apologize for the trouble, confusion, and frustration around this issue. We are taking steps to prevent anything like this from occurring in the future. If you still do not see your money refunded or pending refund please let us know and we will address this right away.

I'm in a similar situation, I'm waiting since 15.02.2010 for a transfer to be made and I might lose it because of this. 2-3 emails and nothing. I'm very disappointed.
  • Satish
I'm waiting since 2nd Feb, my domain expired on 6th, these fellows haven't submitted it for registry approval till now. WHO is data for those domains is still showing the old registrars name. I sent my first mail to them on 9th Feb there is no reply so far. I moved my domains to name.com just to save time, as the annoying godaddy interface took lot of time to make changes to the domain, but that purpose is now defeated. I'm very disappointed to, I think I will have to find another registrar.

I think I will have to look for another registrar.
  • Bogdan
Right now I don't know if you are a real registrar or just a company who buy and sell domains. I submitted a ticket for your support days ago with a problem I've got with a domain transfer and NOBODY replied yet. It's a mistake that I'm trying to move all my domains with you ? Because with this kind of support I DON"T THINK SO.
  • namedotcom
    HI Bogdan,

We assure you we are a real registrar, we are just experiencing a very heavy support load and we are short on people. What is your case number? We will have someone take a look right away.

    Best regards,
    Lesley

    Bogdan,

Very sorry for the delay. Your transfers were rejected and due to a bug in our system you did not receive an automated response or refund for this. We are handling this process manually right now and our dev team is investigating the bug that caused this confusion. We apologize for any inconvenience.
  • Bogdan
What should I do now ? Re-transfer my domain or wait for you to do it and charge me again ? I don't want to lose my domain because I have it since 2003.
  • Satish Gandham
Continue with the same resgistrar or move to another on. What these fellows did is very unprofessional.Who is going to pay for the loss if the sites went down because of this issue. I cant think what would have happened if I lost the domain.

I will never register my domains with these fellows again, wont recommend it to anyone, and discourage those who are using them.
  • Bogdan
The status of my domain transfer was switched to "pending for refund". I am very sad because I must continue with GoDaddy and I'm sick and tired of them.

Now I'm the first time disappointed by name.com and I honestly hope this is the only time for this.

My domain is 7 years old and it's already a vintage one and it's value it's huge, I can't afford to lose it and if I will ever lose it because of an error I will start a trial for everybody to learn from that.

I hope you guys from name.com to solve your problems. I love your simple and clean system and hope it will remain like this.

Also please work on Customer Support because it's terrible or not present. No replies, nothing.

Good luck and see you at the next transfer.
  • namedotcom
    Hi Bogdan,

Again we are very sorry. You can try the transfer again, but we would recommend contacting Godaddy before you do so to find out why the first attempt was rejected. Unfortunately when a transfer fails we are never told the reason why.
  • Bogdan
I renewed with one year because I almost lost it. I will transfer it next year. Maybe till then you improve your Customer Support.
  • Dave
    Renewls need to drop...
  • Khan
Looking at DomainMonster.com Launching the seprate CTH i dont think anyone will keep domains here they charging 9.99 for each
  • The Deals
and I am a big fan of Name.com but recently you guys started charging $14 for .tel domain renewal which is not a good move..unfortunately people like me has to seek other cheaper registrar..I know this sounds like off topic but thought it's atleast tel related
  • namedotcom
We actually recently changed our renewal pricing on .TELs from $14.99 to $12.99. :)
  • check my credit report
iPhone apps do not need domains.
I hear more and more ads referencing their Twitter account or Facebook page, with no mention of a domain.
    Anyone worried?
